MT027 previously received Orphan Drug Designation, and T-Maximum was authorized to start a Phase II study.
August 31, 2026
By: Patrick Lavery
Editor’s Take: A Fast Track Designation opens the door to other potential FDA decisions like Accelerated Approval or Priority Review.
T-Maximum Pharmaceutical’s investigational chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy, MT027, received Fast Track Designation from the U.S. FDA.
The FDA’s decision applies to an indication to treat recurrent glioblastoma. MT027 previously got Orphan Drug Designation from the FDA for treatment of recurrent high-grade glioma. At that time, the FDA authorized T-Maximum to conduct a Phase II clinical study of MT027 in recurrent glioblastoma.
MT027 targets B7-H3, an immune checkpoint molecule that has garnered significant interest in recent years in solid tumor drug development. T-Maximum says antibody-drug conjugates, antibody therapeutics, and cell therapies are all in development.
According to T-Maximum, recurrent glioblastoma is among the most demanding settings in which to test cell therapies’ solid tumor capabilities. Among the problems to be solved: delivering cells to compartments associated with the central nervous system. This, while addressing in-vivo persistence of allogeneic cells.
With that backdrop, T-Maximum says the Orphan Drug and Fast Track designations, plus the Phase II clearance, further MT027’s momentum.
“[This] designation from the FDA is an important milestone in the global development of MT027,” T-Maximum CEO Xiaoyun Shang said. “But it is not the destination. What matters more to us is the continued validation in the demanding setting of recurrent glioblastoma. How target selection, an allogeneic off-the-shelf product, local delivery, and clinical execution work together. Every piece of solid clinical evidence helps us refine the ongoing development of MT027 and provides translational experience.”
Fast Track Designation opens a program to more frequent FDA interactions, including potentially Accelerated Approval and/or Priority Review.
